When I was a child I would take my blanket everywhere. It was a coveted item in my life and it would travel everywhere with me. It was a small blue blanket that I had been given as a present from my grandma. My mom thought I looked like Linus from Charlie brown, but I personally thought that I had more hair.
One day when I was about three I was taking a walk with my mom at “Wild Memorial park.” We passed the playground, and the shinny new slide called my name. I dropped my blanket down on the picnic table and emptied my pockets of snacks. I wrapped the snacks in the blanket and ran to the slid. I ran to the playground and began to play. Going up and down the slide over and over again, never being able to quench my thirst of the rush of wind as you go down the slide. As I was enjoying my time on the slide, but little did I know I was going to become the victim of a theft.
As I was enjoying my time on the slide one of the untamed squires of “Wild Park” hopped up onto the picnic table. It scampered over to my blanket sniffed around it. It was evident that the squirrel smelled the snacks when he began to tear a hole in the bottom of my blanket, meanwhile I was still playing on the playground.
At this point I began to hear the crinkling of a bag of candy near the picnic table. I looked over the picnic table as I pushed myself onto the slide. To my horror I saw the head of a squirrel sticking through my blanket. The head of the squirrel was bright orange do to sticky cheese of the cheetos he was munching into. I was helpless from my position on the slide and watched tantalizing seconds go by as I made my way down to the bottom. As soon as I hit the ground I was off running and screaming at the picnic table. Instead of leaving my cheetos and blanket were they where it ran off with the cheetos in its mouth and the blanket partially around its neck. I was stunned that the my blanket was running away from me along with my cheetos and realized that I must act fast if I wanted to rescue my blanket in distress. I ran after the squirrel but he was to fast for me, weaving around the playground faster than the quickest tag players. I had to come up with a new strategy and fast. I looked around me and saw that there were no objects in sight to grab, so all I had see was the playground and the tennis courts. The squirrel was running fast but being weighed down by the blanket around his neck and the cheetos in his mouth he was not going nearly as fast as normal squirrels do. I decided that I would corner him against the fence of the tennis courts and then wrestle the blanket away from the squirrel. I implemented my plan immediately chasing the squirrel to the left so that he would run to the right. He fell for the trap and found himself in-between a fence and a small hill with a three year old child. I stood with my hands on my knees anticipating the squirrel’s next action. He made a move right and I mirrored his actions. The squirrels next action would be something that I was not prepared for, the squirrel ran right at me. I tried to grab at the squirrel but came up short as the squirrel ran through my legs. I tried to turn around while attempting to try to grab the squirrel and fell down in a heap. As I turned my head around I saw the squirrel as he scampered up a tree with chatters of triumph. But there was something different about the squirrel, as I looked down at my legs I realized that my blanket was no longer around the neck of the squirrel I looked down to my feet and saw that my blanket was in-between my knees. In my clumsy fall my knees must have come together and trapped the blanket freeing the squirrel from the blanket. After a patch was sown on and it was washed numerous times my blanket was better than ever.
